Kybella® is specifically designed to break down fat cells in targeted areas, particularly in treating submental fullness, commonly known as a double chin. It’s important to note that Kybella® targets only fat, which is crucial since a double chin can sometimes result from loose skin or other tissues that obscure the neck. These issues require a different approach focused on skin tightening. Your body makes a chemical known as deoxycholic acid to help break down and absorb fats in the digestive system. Kybella® also uses deoxycholic acid, which is the active ingredient in the injectable medication. Once injected into carefully targeted areas, the deoxycholic acid gets to work on breaking down fat cells. The chemical disrupts the fat cells’ membranes, prompting the body to remove the now-defunct cells as part of its routine maintenance processes. Clearing out the cells takes time, so the results from a Kybella® session are gradual and more natural-looking than something like liposuction.
