IPL Fotofacial

Use light therapy to treat sun damage, uneven skin tone, and improve the signs of aging in New Jersey.

Luminous Skin. Refined Clarity.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Fotofacial uses light energy to target discoloration and signs of sun damage. Leaving you with clearer, more even-toned skin. It’s one of our go-to treatments for brightening the complexion, fading redness, and softening age spots. At Dermalogic, we often recommend IPL as part of a seasonal skin reset or long-term skin clarity plan.

Are You a Candidate for IPL Fotofacial? An IPL Fotofacial is ideal if you want to correct uneven skin tone and restore a brighter, more youthful complexion. It effectively treats age spots, sun damage, acne scars, redness, rosacea, and broken capillaries while helping to minimize fine lines and other signs of aging. IPL uses light energy to target pigment and redness beneath the skin’s surface, promoting collagen renewal for clearer, smoother, and healthier looking skin over time. This treatment works best for patients with lighter to medium complexions who are looking to reduce discoloration, even out texture, and achieve a natural, refreshed glow without downtime.

Dermalogic’s Expertise and Results - At Dermalogic, Dr. Amy Krachman and her team take a holistic, physician guided approach to skin rejuvenation. Our advanced laser systems are calibrated for both safety and precision, stimulating collagen while clearing pigment for a smooth, radiant finish. Patients love how their skin tone becomes more even, their redness fades, and their overall complexion looks younger and more balanced after a short series of treatments. The result is luminous, healthy skin that reflects natural beauty; not makeup or filters.

Frequently Asked Questions

PL Fotofacial targets many of the most common signs of sun damage and complexion changes. It treats unwanted pigmentation such as age spots, sun spots, and post inflammatory pigmentation from acne. It can safely improve melasma in the right candidates and helps even skin tone for a brighter, more uniform look.

IPL is also highly effective for redness, rosacea, facial flushing, and visible vessels by gently closing tiny capillaries and calming the overall tone of the skin. Beyond color correction, IPL supports collagen, which helps soften fine lines, minimize pore size and restore a healthy glow.

Because it addresses pigment, redness and early aging at the same time, IPL Fotofacial is a strong option for anyone looking to brighten, clarify and refresh their skin without downtime.

The IPL device emits pulses of light that are absorbed by pigmented areas in the skin, breaking down excess melanin or hemoglobin. This process allows the body to naturally remove the damaged cells, revealing clearer, more even-toned skin. The treatment is suitable for various skin types and is commonly used to treat the face, neck, chest, and hands.

The spots you see today formed years ago when you were in the sun. Sun and UV exposure impact melanocytes deep at the bottom of the epidermis. As we age, those melanocytes rise up to the superficial dermis of our skin and while rising, they clump together to form spots. IPL targets the melanocytes, drawing them into the most superfacial layer of skin, and then they exfoliate off naturally. This process typically takes two to four weeks. The spots get darker or “chocolate chip cookie” dirty looking for two weeks, then they “fall” naturally.

The darker spots are not textured, so you can wear makeup to cover the pigmentation. A series of treatments is recommended as the light treats melanocytes layer by layer. Remember, it has taken decades for the the spots to become visible, so it will take a few IPL sessions to address them.

Your IPL visit starts with a thoughtful consultation. Dr. Amy Krachman looks closely at your skin, your history, and what bothers you most so she can determine if IPL is the right treatment for you. She will walk you through benefits, expectations, and any precautions based on your skin type.

In preparation for this light therapy treatment, Dr. Krachman will recommend that patients avoid sunbathing or tanning beds, applying tanning lotions or creams, waxing, and chemical peels for at least two weeks prior to their IPL treatment.

At the beginning of your IPL Fotofacial session, the treatment area will be thoroughly cleansed, and a protective gel will be applied to your skin. Using a handheld device, pulses of light will then be carefully administered to target specific skin concerns. Each session typically lasts around 30 minutes, and afterward, a soothing serum and SPF will be gently applied to your skin to promote comfort and healing. Some patients describe the sensation during treatment as a light pinching or snap with seeing a bright flash of light. The is generally well-tolerated.

After your session, the skin can look slightly pink and dark spots often look temporarily darker; like chocolate cookie or coffee ground like) before they gradually lift and flake away over the next few weeks. Revealing brighter, clearer skin beneath.

Every IPL plan at Dermalogic is customized. We adjust settings based on your skin color, pigmentation issues including brown and red pigment. Our providers will  design a treatment plan that fits your goals and lifestyle. Our focus is to make the treatment comfortable, and effective. With natural looking improvements that continue to change over time and leaves your skin clearer, brighter, and glowing.

After your IPL Fotofacial, it’s common to experience some redness or pinkness on the skin, similar to a mild sunburn. This typically lasts for several hours, while swelling may persist for a few days. Rest assured, the light from the Fotofacial targets specific skin concerns without affecting surrounding tissues, allowing for a swift recovery.

To achieve the best results, a personalized series of treatments may be recommended. Dr. Krachman will guide you through post-treatment care to enhance and maintain your results. The exact number of sessions and their duration will depend on your individual treatment plan, as carefully tailored by Dr. Krachman to suit your skin’s unique needs.

Please note that the full benefits of IPL may take a few weeks to become apparent. As your skin tone becomes more even, you’ll notice a more youthful, refreshed appearance. For optimal results, continue applying a pigment regulator serum to the treated area at least twice a day for three months and SPF daily. Additionally, reducing or limiting sun exposure will help preserve and maximize your results as they develop over time.

IPL may not always be the best option for everyone. Dermalogic provides a complete range of skincare services for patients hoping to enhance the look and feel of the skin. Botox® and other wrinkle relaxers are minimally invasive injectables that relax facial muscles to prevent expression wrinkles in areas such as the forehead or around the eyes. Injectable dermal fillers add fullness or volume when injected to reduce static wrinkles or improve the contours or balance of the face. There are also various other types of skin rejuvenation options to revitalize the skin such as AQUAGOLD® Fine Touch™, a microchannel, microinjector device, SkinVive, a type of microdroplet treatment that is part of the Juvéderm® line, and laser-based skincare services such as laser skin rejuvenation that can address many of the same types of concerns that are treated with IPL. Dr. Krachman and her team will help you decide on the best solution or combination of treatments for you.
